1998 - 2002 were fantastic times for the new growing Stoner Rock scene. So many bands hit the earth and so many bands never got the chance to release an official album. But a lot of demos are flying around since that period. We try to bring some of those bands with their great demo recordings back and give that influencal sounds a wider attention.

Abdullah was a stoner/doom metal act from Cleveland, Ohio. Active between 1998 and 2009, Abdullah would release two albums amid a host of other releases, earning a reputation as a top act in the Cleveland area and earning several hometown awards. Abdullah could be seen as a nucleus to many acts within the Cleveland scene, many of it's members involved with a host of other key Cleveland bands such as Keelhaul, Boulder, Midnight and Ringworm to scratch the surface

Abdullah is Arabic for "servant of god."

These demos were recorded by Jeff Shirilla on a tascam 4-track cassette in their practice room. At the time it was just Jeff and his step-brother, Alex Tocco, in the band. Jeff did drums and vocals, Alex did bass and guitars. This was recorded in november of 1998 and never really distributed anywhere other than to friends. Only about 5 copies were dubbed onto cassette.

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff. Even without a Hammond B3, it gets an easy A+... rick-taylor
